2. Scope of Practice

What I Provide

As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina, I provide:

  • Individual, couples, and family therapy for adults (18+)
  • Culturally affirming mental health support for Black and Muslim communities
  • Treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, and relationship issues
  • Faith-integrated counseling (for clients who request it)
  • Telehealth and in-person sessions

What I Do NOT Provide

  • Psychiatric Medication Management: I am not a psychiatrist and cannot prescribe medication
  • Crisis Intervention Services: I do not provide 24/7 crisis support
  • Court-Ordered Evaluations: Forensic evaluations, custody evaluations, or legal testimony
  • Substance Abuse Treatment: I am not a certified addiction counselor
  • Eating Disorder Treatment: Specialized ED treatment requires a multidisciplinary team
  • Services for Minors: I work exclusively with adults (18+)

Referrals When Needed

If your needs fall outside my scope of practice, I will provide appropriate referrals to qualified professionals, including:

  • Psychiatrists (for medication evaluation)
  • Specialized treatment programs (e.g., eating disorder clinics, substance abuse programs)
  • Higher levels of care (e.g., intensive outpatient programs, inpatient hospitalization)

3. No Guarantees of Outcomes

While I am committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based therapy, I cannot guarantee specific outcomes or results.

Therapy is a collaborative process that requires active participation, honesty, and commitment from both you and your therapist. Success depends on many factors, including:

  • The nature and severity of your concerns
  • Your willingness to engage in the therapeutic process
  • External factors (life circumstances, social support, etc.)
  • The therapeutic relationship and fit between client and therapist

Not everyone benefits from therapy in the same way or at the same pace. Some clients experience significant improvement quickly, while others require more time. If you feel therapy is not helping, please discuss this with me so we can adjust our approach or explore other options.
