Family Counseling

Healing the spaces where love and misunderstanding live together

Families carry stories, habits, and hurts that get passed around until someone decides to break the pattern. That is where our work begins.

Black family in family therapy session

Family counseling with me is about creating room for everyone's voice to matter without letting chaos take the lead. I help families understand the stories beneath their reactions — the fear behind the silence, the sadness behind the anger, the love that still wants to be heard.

We slow down enough to listen, to speak with care, and to rebuild trust that has worn thin. I guide families toward communication that feels safe, honest, and steady. Together, we find ways to stop repeating old roles and start building new rhythms that feel like peace instead of pressure.

There is no perfect family, only people learning how to grow together. This work helps you do that with patience, respect, and accountability. Because healing a family starts with one honest conversation.

My Approach

Intergenerational Respect

I honor the wisdom of elders while creating space for younger generations' experiences. Your family's cultural traditions and values are centered, not sidelined.

Systems Perspective

I see families as interconnected systems where changes in one person affect everyone. We work together to shift unhelpful patterns and build healthier family dynamics.

Culturally Grounded Solutions

I use therapeutic approaches adapted to your family's cultural context—whether that's honoring collectivist values, respecting religious practices, or navigating the balance between tradition and modern American life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not necessarily. While it's ideal to have key family members present, therapy can still be effective even if some members can't or won't attend. We work with whoever is available and willing to participate.
This is common, especially in Black and Muslim communities. I'm experienced in navigating this dynamic and can help you approach resistant family members in culturally respectful ways. Sometimes starting with willing members helps others see the value.
I create a space where all voices are heard and honored. I help bridge generational gaps by facilitating understanding of different perspectives while respecting elders' wisdom and younger generations' experiences.
Absolutely! Many families include grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other relatives. I welcome extended family members when their involvement is relevant to the healing process.
I work with families of all configurations. Sessions may include children depending on their age and the nature of the concerns. I'll help determine the best approach for your specific family.
Most families see improvement within 8-15 sessions. Some continue longer-term for ongoing support through major transitions. The timeline depends on your family's specific challenges and goals.
